Musical is a form of theater in which spoken text, music, song and dance are combined. Usually, colorful clothing and decorations used.

The first musicals
Performs in London in 1728, The Beggar’s Opera by John Gay premiere. This is the longest running stage production of the 18th century. Although most pieces when no more than one week were performed, it was shown over 60 times. The Beggar’s Opera is a parody of an opera and is the substratum of the population. Unlike opera was sung in this piece is not everything, but it was discussed between. Later plays, like Shakespeare, in a funny way between songs were rewritten and put on. Continue reading

Caroline O’Connor – Moulin Rouge

Caroline O’Connor was born on September 2nd in 1962. She is an English-Australian singer, dancer and actress.

O’Connor was born in Oldham, Lancashire, England. Her Irish parents subsequently raised and trained in Australia. She trained at the Royal Ballet School in London and worked for one year at the Australian Opera Ballet. Became an Australian Citizen in 2007.

Her extraordinary voice brought her many roles in musicals, but in particular she stands out in Baz Luhrmann’s film Moulin Rouge! And in this video you can see it yourself:

Violence and Drugs by Quentin Tarantino

Quentin Tarantino is an American film director. His best known films are Reservoir Dogs (1992), Pulp Fiction (1994), Jackie Brown (1997), the two-part Kill Bill (2003/2004), Death Proof (2007) and Inglourious Basterds (2009). He also produced films, scenarios’s written as (film) actor occurred. He won an Oscar for the screenplay of Pulp Fiction.

The film style of which he is an exponent, the Nouvelle Violence, because of the very explicit scenes of violence. The themes of his films is situated in the underworld where other laws prevail than in bourgeois society. Characteristic for dealing with violence is the banality of it, as if killing and torturing ordinary cost is.
Typical of the work of Tarantino are also the numerous references to other films. This is often blamed on the fact that at the age of fifteen have left school to work in a video store and so came into contact with various film genres. In an interview with the BBC says Tarantino still be overjoyed with this decision.
An example is the dance in Pulp Fiction that John Travolta, one of the main characters, makes with Uma Thurman, referring to Travolta’s dance films, including Saturday Night Fever.

Furthermore, he dives here and also as an actor. So he played supporting roles in Reservoir Dogs (as Mr.. Brown) and Pulp Fiction (as Jimmie Dimmick). In which he wrote and produced From Dusk Till Dawn, he played alongside George Clooney is one of the main characters as Richard Gecko.

Besides numerous obvious or more subtle references, he incorporates many existing music in his films. With Pulp Fiction won the Palme d’Or for best film at the Cannes Film Festival. Additionally, the film was nominated 7 times for an Oscar. He won the 1994 Oscar for original screenplay.
Tarantino also wrote, Natural Born Killers (1994)among other , directed by Oliver Stone and True Romance (1993), directed by Tony Scott.

Hannibal

Hannibal is a film from 2001 directed by Ridley Scott. It’s a thriller based on the third book in the trilogy by author Thomas Harris. This film tells the story of Hannibal Lecter. The movie include Anthony Hopkins, Julianne Moore and Giancarlo Gianni.
This third Hannibal Lecter movie is the sequel to The Silence of the Lambs, the great Oscar winning success of 1991. Anthony Hopkins crawls for the second time in the role of Hannibal, but Jodie Foster declined the honor.

After escaping from serial killer, Hannibal Lecter has been years in hiding in Florence. A former victim of Lecter is trying to lure him back to America, in order to take revenge. He uses the one thing that Lecter is interested: FBI agent Clarice Starling.

Edward Norton

Edward James Norton Jr (Boston, 18 August 1969) is an American actor. He was both his supporting role in Primal Fear as for his role in American History X was nominated for an Academy Award. More than a dozen acting awards were actually given him, including a Golden Globe for Primal Fear, a Satellite Award for American History X and a National Board of Review Award for Everyone Says I Love You.

Norton had since childhood interest in acting. He studied at Yale and graduated with a major in history. He visited various drama schools and found work in New York as a member of the signature players. In his time in one of the pieces played a role, was a search for an opponent for Richard Gere in Primal Fear. The role was first Leonardo DiCaprio offered, but rejected it out. At the time the project was abandoned Gere, Norton did audition. He was chosen over 2,000 other actors. Even before Primal Fear came out, made his acting performances impressed. This gave him roles offered in Everyone Says I Love You and The People vs. Larry Flynt.

For Primal Fear got Norton include a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination, both for Best Supporting Actor. In 1998 he appeared in the movie American History X. For this role, he received his second Oscar nomination, this time for best actor.

In 2000 he made his directorial debut in Keeping the Faith, which he also played the leading roles. Continue reading

Film Review: Black Swan

Black Swan was nominated for five Academy Awards, the cinematography, directing and editing were much appreciated by critics. Additionally, the film was nominated for best film of the year and Natalie Portman won for best female lead. Has all this been positive fair criticism?

The film
The film revolves around a dance production of Swan Lake. The producer for the special performance to find a dancer that both the role of the white swan could undertake the role of the black swan. Nina, played by Natalie Portman, would really like to have this role. She does not however have the wildness that needed to be able to play Black swan. Another dancer, Lily (Mila Kunis) is well suited for this role. Afraid of the roller to get Nina begins to suffer from hallucinations, and she sinks further and further into her own competitive spirit. Continue reading
